SKY

SKY links to my blog because it is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also owns FOX. Thus, many American ideologies come through in stations on SKY such as 'abc' etc. Furthermore, SKY broadcasts FOX NEWS, an affiliation of Rupert Murdoch's FOX network.

WARNER BROS

WARNER BROS links to my blog because similarly to FOX it produces TV shows. Some of these include 'The O.C' and 'Smallville' which are in direct competition with FOX shows such as 'Prison Break' and '24'

Hammond crash may be made into documentary

The BBC is hoping to show the footage of the crash that almost killed Richard Hammond.

It will be down to the Top Gear presenter to decide if the corporation can air the footage of the 300mph accident.

The corporation says it is too early to decide whether or not the film of the crash will be aired on Top Gear or in a special documentary.

But the Daily Mirror revealed this morning that the BBC wants to show the film, as long as Hammond, who is also a Mirror columnist, agrees.

The paper said the corporation wants Hammond to talk viewers through the accident in a one-off special. However, the BBC is unlikely to show the presenter being treated by paramedics after the crash.

Dubbed the "Hamster", Hammond is still recovering from the injuries he sustained when a jet-powered dragster he drove at speeds of up to 300mph crashed at an airfield near York.

His neurosurgeon has predicted Hammond will be "back to his old self" within six months.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "It is only two weeks ago that Richard was fighting for his life. The last thing on our minds right now is making a programme about the accident. Our focus is very much on his recovery."

SUMMARY

This article refers to the horrific incident involving Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond. Hammond was involved in a 300mph crash in a jet-powered dragster in York attempting to break the land-speed record. This articles explains how the BBC is planning on showing the incident in a short-documentary, but only with the consent of Hammond himself, furthemrore the BBC want Hammond to talk the audience through his horrifc crash. Addtionally, the article tells how Hammon's on the road to recovery after battling for his life. Hammond sufferened brain damage but should recover fully in 6 months.

MY OPINION

I have mixed opinions about the BBC wanting to air Richard Hammond's accident. First of all, i think it's a question of ethics, should the BBC be allowed such a horrific event? In some cases i think they shouldn't because they're exploiting Hammond's incident which so nearly took his life. However, on the other hand i agree with the BBC showing a short-documentary . This is because, Hammond's incident has captivated the nation, and a doc. showing the accident may discourage speeding, as Hammond a fully-qualified race driver and under the finest safety precautions was still able to crash. I feel if the BBC present this as a negative message to dangerous drivers, then showing the footage is correct and may act as a warning to fellow motorists.
